Spring Street Improvements and East Elden Street Project

Spring Street Improvements

SCOPE: This project enhances the safety and efficiency of East Spring Street between Fairfax County Parkway and Herndon Parkway. Improvements include:

  • Widening of travel lanes, and increasing number of lanes from four to six
  • Addition of raised landscaped median between Fairfax County Parkway and Herndon Parkway
  • Improvement of turning lanes in all four directions
  • Construction of bicycle track for 2,000 feet along Herndon Parkway, southward from the W&OD Trail
  • Addition of bicycle and pedestrian crosswalks

TIMELINE: Construction on the project is expected to begin in Fall 2022.  More information on this project is available on the VDOT website.

East Elden Street Project

SCOPE: This project is designed to relieve peak-hour congestion on Elden Street, between Herndon Parkway and Fairfax County Parkway, and improve traffic movements between Herndon Parkway and Monroe Street. Enhancements include:

  • Addition of raised landscaped median between Fairfax County Parkway and Herndon Parkway
  • Addition of dedicated turn lanes
  • Addition of crosswalks
  • Improved traffic and pedestrian signals
  • Bus stop improvements at major intersections
  • Addition of bike lanes

TIMELINE: Utilities construction is expected to begin in 2023.
