Metrorail opened in Herndon in 2022.  The following planning initiatives are designed to capitalize on Herndon's access to the Silver Line.

Herndon Metro Station Area Plan 

Adopted by reference in the Town's Comprehensive Plan, this plan studied redevelopment scenarios for the commercial areas nearest to the station and established the Herndon Transit-Oriented Core.

Herndon Transit-Oriented Core (HTOC)

Roughly 38 acres comprised of several parcels immediately north of the Herndon Metro Station, which have been identified and planned for a mixed-use urban center of redevelopment.     

Transit-Related Growth Area (TRG) Study

This project is currently underway.  It will evaluate potential densities and land uses with the areas to the north and east of the HTOC.
