The Chief of Police is the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town of Herndon and is responsible for the planning and response to critical incidents and special events.

The Town of Herndon's emergency management organization is integrated into Fairfax County's Emergency Operations Plan to ensure effective coordination, support, and response.  The town's plan addresses the town’s response to disasters that may impact the town, either natural or man-made, and the department routinely trains and coordinates with local, state and Federal emergency management agencies.
