Stream Restoration, Adopted FY 2024 – FY 2029 Capital Improvement Program
Project Description: The Sugarland Run North Stream Restoration project will continue the stream restoration of the Sugarland Run Stream between the W&OD trail and Elden Street. The Town’s Sugarland Run South Stream Restoration project will be completed in Winter 2024 with the planting of native trees and other flora. The North project will begin directly downstream from the South project. The project will restore approximately 2,000 linear feet of steep, degraded stream to a more natural condition.
The goal of the stream restoration project is to restore the stream to its natural condition while mitigating the environmental impact. This will be accomplished by a natural design that will tie the project into the environment. For example, the South project reused all removed trees to construct the toe logs or riffles. Recycled material will be used to create cross-vanes, riffles, rock toes or similar structures. Native grasses, plants, shrubs and trees will be planted along the stream, ensuring bank stabilization while also provided necessary habitat for the local fauna. The project will improve water quality in the area and decrease flood impacts.
