Public Records Request (FOIA):

The Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOlA) is set out in § 2.2-3700 et seq., of the Virginia Code. It guarantees citizens of the Commonwealth and representatives of the media access to public records held by public bodies, public officials, and public employees. To make a FOIA request from Herndon Police Department, you may contact our FOIA Specialist, at 703-435-6891, or herndonpd.foia@herndon-va.gov.

Criminal Records Requests:

Individuals requesting their records must provide two current forms of identification; one must contain a photograph and a date of birth. Criminal record requests include only those arrests that have occurred in the Town of Herndon. In the State of Virginia, complete current checks are only available from Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange.

Traffic Accident Reports:

On May 13, 2024, the Herndon Police Department changed its records and reporting system. Moving forward, crash reports (FR300P) for all reportable traffic crashes (crashes which occur on public property that involve death, personal injury, or property damage of $1,500 or more) shall be requested through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. Fees will apply.

All non-reportable crash reports (hit and run crashes on public property less than $1,500; crashes occurring on private property and involving death, personal injury or hit and run crashes) may be obtained in person, by telephone, email, or US mail.
