The Town's first Sustainability Plan was adopted by the Town Council on December 12, 2017.  Thanks to the engagement of town staff across all departments and the efforts of the volunteer residents that served on the plan development committees, Herndon now has a plan in place for a coordinated approach and consolidated report of the Town's various environmental sustainability efforts. 

Sustainability goals are focused on 8 primary topics: Energy, Waste, Water, Local Ecosystems, Land Use, Transportation, Healthy Food, and Awareness.  It will be reviewed and updated annually with the assistance of a Sustainability Advisory Committee.

The Town is now in the process of evaluating the plan and producing a report on its progress.  Some major sustainability plan initiatives including an energy audit and energy efficiency upgrades to town facilities in addition to development of a bicycle plan and pedestrian plan have been completed.  Check back here for updates!
