In 2015, Herndon adopted a Local Historic Marker Program. Beginning in 2016, the Town began installing markers at sites of local historic significance identified by the staff and residents of the Historic Marker Committee.

Each marker highlights a specific building, person, event, or period important to Herndon's history and increase awareness and understanding of the heritage that helps make Herndon the special community it is today.
