Utility Maintenance Worker I (Refuse)

The purpose of this position is to assist with the town refuse and recycling curbside collection program.  Work assignments include, but are not limited to, working on the rear of a town refuse and recycling vehicle; emptying refuse and recycling containers throughout the town’s residential sections; collecting yard waste from town’s residential sections; and collecting debris throughout town roadsides and public areas.

Duties and Responsibilities
 1. Works with team to collect curbside refuse and recycling from town residential properties, following the town code enforcement policies. 

 2. Works with team to collect town roadside debris, such as but not limited to collection from public debris and dog waste station containers; assists in administering maintenance of public street litter and dog waste containers.

 3. Works with team to collect debris from and maintain town properties, such as parks, common areas and greens.

 4. Assists in setup and breakdown of town special events.

 5. Assists in emergency conditions, such as snow removal and other inclement weather.

 6. Responds to resident requests and complaints as directed.

 7. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements 

• High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
• Possession of or ability to obtain forklift and flagger certification within six months of employment
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record

This position is considered “essential personnel”; defined as staff who are required to report to their designated work location during weather related or other emergencies, even when town offices are closed, or normal operations suspended.

Monday - Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm

Due to the nature of a government providing services to the public all duties of this position are required to be fulfilled at the designated worksite in the town. No remote work is available.
