DUTIES:
1. Performs a variety of tasks pertaining to maintenance work in the care of town water distribution system and sanitary sewer conveyance system.
2. May drive vehicles/equipment to and from job sites; may operate equipment in performance of maintenance duties.
3. Assists with work zones; setup, flagging and maintenance.
4. Performs general maintenance work and daily preventative maintenance on trucks, mowers and equipment.
5. Assists in installing water meters, ground meters, fire hydrants, drinking fountains, new water lines and other water infrastructure components.
6. Assists in repairing main water line breaks; repairs service lines, repairs fire hydrants; paints fire hydrants and well buildings; backfills around ground meters.
7. Assists with site maintenance of tanks and sewer stations.
8. Assists with maintaining the sanitary sewer conveyance system; flushing mains, clearing blockages, and repairing mains and manholes.
9. Assists with required system test; collecting water samples, conducting fire flow test, pressure test.
10. Assists in marking water and sewer lines as needed.
11. Requires 24/7 response to water and sewer emergencies related to water breaks, sewer backups and sewer repair.
12. Assists with special events as needed, including setup and breakdown.
13. Supports public works emergency operations, including but not limited to snow removal, storm cleanup and other inclement, weather-related needs, and other duties as needed.
14. Must report to work in, and wear at all times on the job, steel-toed safety shoes of an acceptable standard, effective the first scheduled workday. May not work without safety shoes.
15. Performs other duties as required.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• High school diploma or GED required
• One years’ experience and/or training in sewer or water system maintenance preferred
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record
• Must be able to obtain confined space and trench safety certifications within six months of employment with the town.
• Must be able to obtain both flagger certification and forklift operator license issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation within six months of employment with the town.

Hours: Monday - Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm
Due to the nature of a government providing services to the public, all duties of this position are required to be fulfilled at the designated worksite in the town. No remote work is available.
